Native American Director Chris Eyre Joins Forces with West Coast Filmmaker Scott Garen to Create Production Company for Native American Films
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 14, 2005) – After completing production of A Thousand Roads, the widescreen, dramatic signature film of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI), Native American Producer/Director Chris Eyre is joining West Coast Writer/Producer/Director Scott Garen to form a production company specializing in the creation of films for Native Communities.
The new venture, Seven Arrows Signature, will create signature films, as well as cultural and historical films and media components for Native American tribes, museums, cultural centers, and theaters throughout the Americas.
Eyre explains, “Our collaboration on A Thousand Roads was so rewarding, and the film so well received, that we wanted to continue with the production of high caliber films in Indian Country.
We expect to embark on a wide range of dramatic and documentary projects in order to fulfill the vision of each individual tribe.”
Eyre directed A Thousand Roads, while Garen produced and co-wrote the film. Selected to premiere earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, the film now screens hourly in the NMAI’s surround-sound theater in Washington, D.C.
Eyre and Garen plan to apply their considerable production and storytelling experience to creating a variety of films. The duo expects to direct projects as well as oversee the process given their joint role as executive producers.
The productions will employ Native producers, directors, writers, and cinematographers wherever possible. “We will meet with tribes throughout the Americas who are interested in the creation of quality signature films and listen closely to their vision and expectations in order to achieve the same success we experienced with the NMAI,” notes Garen.
Chris Eyre has become the pre-eminent Native American director with such award-winning films as Smoke Signals, Skins, Edge of America, and the Robert Redford produced Mystery films.
Scott Garen has created major film and television projects with some of Hollywood’s biggest players including Peter Guber (Co-Executive Producer of A Thousand Roads), Michael Eisner, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Johnny Carson, Ray Stark, and Las Vegas casino owner Steve Wynn.
