March Pow Wows in the United States

A pow wow is a gathering in North America of Native American and First Nations people to celebrate their culture, traditions, and spirituality. Pow wows usually feature dances, songs, drums, crafts, food, and ceremonies.

Pow wows are open to everyone, regardless of their background or ethnicity, and they offer a chance to learn about and appreciate the diversity and richness of Indigenous cultures.

There are many pow wows held throughout the year in different locations, but some of the most popular ones take place in March. Here are a few  examples of pow wows that are held annually in March:

Denver March Pow Wow: This is one of the largest and oldest pow wows in the country, featuring more than 1,500 dancers from nearly 100 tribes from 38 states and three Canadian provinces.

The three-day event takes place in late March at the Denver Coliseum and showcases singing, dancing, storytelling, art, and food. The pow wow also hosts a youth art contest, a princess contest, and a health fair.

Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair & Market: This is a two-day event that showcases the art and culture of over 600 Native American artists from more than 100 tribes.

The event is held in early March at the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona, and includes juried art competitions, live music and dance performances, cultural demonstrations, book signings, and children’s activities.

Puvungna Pow Wow: This is a two-day event that celebrates the Native American heritage of the Tongva people who once inhabited the land where California State University Long Beach is located.

The event is held in mid-March on the university campus and features traditional dances, drumming, singing, storytelling, vendors, raffles, and educational booths.

Thundering Spirit Family Pow Wow: This is a three-day event that honors the spirit of all Native American people. The event is held in early March at Renninger’s Twin Markets in Mount Dora, Florida, and features intertribal dancing, drumming circles, flute playing, storytelling, Native American cuisine, arts and crafts vendors, and wildlife exhibits.

These are just some of the many pow wows that you can attend in March or any other month of the year. Pow wows are a great way to experience the beauty and diversity of Native American cultures and to show respect and appreciation for their history and contributions.
