It has two 3" beaded medallions and another artifact replica (shown with a rawhide rattle) below the center dream catcher. It also has several hanks of horse hair, representing strength and stamina.

Many deerskin fringes hang from the antlers, the base of the central dream catcher and along the bottom of the shield. They are decorated with over 250 glass crow trade beads and brass cones. Your choice of large feathers and smaller feather accents complete this shield (shown with barred turkey feathers, pheasant tails, golden pheasant feathers, and black coque feathers) .

No two deer antlers are shaped exactly the same, and bead patterns and colors will vary. If you have a preference for the bead colors on the fringes, leave a comment in the comment box on your checkout form, and we will choose a bead rosette to complement your preferred colors.

Select your preferences from the dropdown menues at the bottom of the page.

This shield is approximately 24" wide X 34" long, but may vary a few inches in length. The shape of the hide dictates where the fringes will be and their length, but all are beautiful.

The Dream Catcher Legend

The dream catcher comes from an Ojibwe legend. According to the legend, hanging a dream catcher near a sleeping person causes the bad dreams to be caught in the web, while the good dreams enter through the hole in the middle and drift down the feathers to the sleeping person. Then in the morning, sunlight enters through the hole to melt the bad dreams away.

The beads in a dream catcher represent bad dreams that have been caught. A dreamcatcher can be made more powerful by adding personal totems that have significance to the owner of the dream catcher, such as fur, feathers, stones, beads or claws or bits of horn from the owner's totem animals.

Read the Ojibway dreamcatcher legend.
