Talking sticks were used in tribal councils to maintain order. Whoever held the talking stick had the floor, and everyone else was forbidden to speak, until the speaker passed the stick, signalling they had finished what they had to say.

This talking stick has a 5" medicine wheel decorated with 4 deer antler buttons, brass beads and glass crow beads in the colors of the Sacred Four Directions. The handle is wrapped in authentic buckskin leather and the fringes are decorated with brass or silver beads, glass crow beads and small feathers (shown with duck). It is approximately 20" (50.8 cm) long.

The center of the medicine wheel has crow beads in the colors of the sacred four directions: White for North, Yellow for East, Red for south, and Black for West.
