Hist->ModernDayHeroes: Native american code talkers came from 17 tribes, not just Navajo Posted on Monday, March 26 @ 08:50:27 CDT (6689 reads)
|

AUTHOR: Phillip R. Quochytewa III, Kykotsmovi
On March 5, the Arizona Senate passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 1010
urging Congress to establish a new postage stamp honoring three groups of
veterans who fought bravely for our country: The Tuskegee Airmen, the
Japanese American soldiers and the Navajo Code Talkers.
In a quest to honor those who have not been adequately recognized for their
honor and bravery, this proposed legislation has one dishonorable flaw: It
excludes the other 16 Native American tribes who sent men to serve as Code
Talkers in World War I and World War II, including the Hopi Tribe from
Arizona.
Here are the facts:

When Columbus landed in 1492, the Indigenous Red Nations and Peoples he met were gracious and friendly, as they had always been. Unfortunately, columbus murdered many of those “Indians” and took many back to Europe as “slaves”. This historical fact is discarded by u.s. schools and instead the “Hitler-Columbus” is celebrated as some type of “hero” while Indigenous existence, human rights, and nationhood is ignored

It would be very difficult to provide a history of the Pamunkey Tribe without providing a history of the entire Powhatan Confederacy. Past and present historians, archaeologists, and anthropologists tend to group the various tribes when documenting history.

Hist->Famous Battles: History of the Seminole Wars Posted on Wednesday, March 30 @ 06:46:01 CST (9040 reads)
|

The First Seminole War
Following the War of 1812 between the United States and Britain, American slave owners came to Florida in search of runaway African slaves and Indians. These Indians, known as the Seminole, and the runaway slaves had been trading weapons with the British throughout the early 1800s and supported Britain during the War of 1812. From 1817-1818, the United States Army invaded Spanish Florida and fought against the Seminole and their African American allies. Collectively, these battles came to be known as the First Seminole War.

There have been many very notable and honored Chiefs that lived in the Arkansas Territory. Some have claimed Dangerous Man from the Cherokee legend of the Lost Cherokee resided in Arkansas for a time, however we will stick to what we know as fact, as that is usually the best policy when doing legitimate research.
