New casino proposed near Detroit, Michigan

The Hannahville Tribe of Potawatomi Indians and Romulus Mayor Alan Lambert announced plans to build a $243-million casino- hotel complex on a 24.6-acre site at Vining and Wick Roads, just northwest of Detroit Metropolitan Airport. The property would house approximately 2,400 slot machines, 90 table games, a 200-room deluxe hotel, restaurants and retail space. �We will submit an application in several weeks to the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington,� said tribal chairman Kenneth Meshigaud. The plan requires approval from the BIA and a compact with the state of Michigan, along with approval from both houses of the state legislature. The tribe has owned and operated the Island Resort & Casino in Harris since 1993.
