Namaygoosisagagun
First Nation Community

Namaygoosisagagun is a First Nation community located at what is commonly known as "Collins". The native community is located 21 miles west of Armstrong at the southwest corner of Wabakimi Park.

Population: Approximately 30 to 40 Ojibway Anishinabek

Community Facilitator: Tim Hardy

Annual Events:Summer Festival in July. The community gathers for games, special events, and feasting.

History: The community was founded and has been inhabited by persons of first nations descent since before confederation. Presently there are thirty (30) status Ojibway Anishinabek residing in Namaygoosisagagun.

The status people of Namaygoosisagagun have their treaty numbers registered with at least nine different reserves in three different treaty areas. There are some families registered with Fort Hope, Cat Lake, Osnaburgh, and Fort Severn on the Treaty Nine side of the line, and others registered with Dalles, Lac Seul of the Treaty Three. There are also families from Whitesand, Nipigon, Rocky Bay of the Robinson Superior Treaty.

The Namaygoosisagagun people have always lived by hunting, fishing, trapping, and gathering. Access into Namaygoosisagagun is limited to either snowmobile (in winter), train or air. Work has begun to achieve federal Indian reserve status for the community of Namaygoosisagagun.
