Well, whatever...

I've moved again.

Yeah, my wife and I decided that our lives were seriously lacking in stress and frustration - not nearly enough pain and agony - so, rather than pound nails into our heads, we moved.

Next time, I'm gonna pound nails into my head.

Actually, the real reasons we moved are a lot less complicated than that. Much like the Pilgrims, we moved because of religious persecution.

Well, Whatever

Holy Columbus Day, Batman!

I cannot BELIEVE the amount of letters I received after last week's dissertation (i.e., my rantings and ravings) about Christopher Columbus, and about our educational system's disenchanting perpetuation of the hero-myth surrounding the man's supposed "discovery" of America.

To be honest, I kind of expected to have my arse handed to me in a (very large) basket by teachers and educators.

Quite to the contrary, teachers rallied behind my ramblings, even voicing their own frustrations about being forced to teach patriotic propaganda over the truth about Columbus.

Well, Whatever
Today's dissertation is brought to you by the letter 'D,' as in "discovery, and other 'dis' words like "disrespect," "disgrace" and "displace."

Yeah, words like dat.

But let me begin this discourse where it began, with a very disappointing visit to the nearby elementary school where my stepdaughter, Frances, is a distinguished fifth-grader.

Patriotic assembly
My wife and I went to the school gym to watch Frances participate in a "Patriotism Assembly," a musical program in which students dressed as figures from American history and, between patriotic songs, stepped up to the microphone and briefly described their role in the building of this great nation.

Well, Whatever
I don’t know much about the upcoming Winter Olympics, which is something of a shame, I guess, since they’re going to be held practically in my own back yard.

I know something about somebody carrying a torch through Billings, but, hell, I carried a torch for someone in Billings for years without any real significance attached to it.

Other than that though, I’m pretty much clueless about the Olympics. Yep. Wouldn’t know a triple lutz from a double cheeseburger.
