This art print is made from an historical photo of Little Horse, an Oglala Sioux photographed by George Heyn in 1899.

Little Horse (Tasunke Cikala), an Oglala Sioux was killed in the fall of 1876. He is not the same Little Horse who is said to have lead the last charge at the Little Big Horn Battle with Crazy Horse. That Little Horse was a Cheyenne. There is no surviving documentation that Little Horse of the Oglala Sioux participated in that battle.

Various historical photos refer to Little Horse of the Oglala Sioux as a "warrior," "chief," and a "medicine man" at Standing Rock agency.

George Heyn was born in Germany in 1856. He came to America in 1871, learned the photography profession in the East and moved to Omaha, Nebraska in February, 1879. He managed a photography gallery for E. L. Eaton until November 1, 1880, when he purchased the business, which eventually became known as the Heyn Photo Company of Omaha. He died in Detroit, Michigan.
