5 in 1 Deer Antler Dreamcacther Shield
[RSI-5wayDeerSkullDCShield]
 $249.96

This medicine shield is backed with crossed arrows with real stone arrowheads over beige deerskin and a reddish brown full rabbit pelt. It has a faux deer skull with antlers and there are five separate dreamcatchers woven into the forks of the antlers and between the antler beams.

Each dreamcatcher has a variety of glass and natural stone beads woven into the web. A stone Kokopelli and a stone arrowhead dangle from the forward dream catcher on each side.

On either side of the deer skull, there is a three inch glass beadwork medallion in the four winds pattern, surrounded by fancy braidwork. A miniature painted rawhide rattle with fur wraps and more seed beadwork on the handle lies between the arrow shafts below the deerskull.

detail of beadwork medallionMany deerskin fringes hang from the antlers, the base of the deer skull and the bottom of the shield. They are decorated with over 250 glass crow trade beads and brass cones. Six long bundles of horse hair, barred turkey wing feathers, and Lady Amhurst pheasant feather accents complete the shield.

This shield is approximately 25 1/2" wide X 34" long. HAND CRAFTED IN THE USA.

The Dream Catcher Legend
The dream catcher comes from an Ojibwe legend. According to the legend, hanging a dream catcher near a sleeping person causes the bad dreams to be caught in the web, while the good dreams enter through the hole in the middle and drift down the feathers to the sleeping person. Then in the morning, sunlight enters through the hole to melt the bad dreams away.

detail of turkey feathers and crow beads on dreamcatcher shieldThe beads in a dream catcher represent bad dreams that have been caught. A dreamcatcher can be made more powerful by adding personal totems that have significance to the owner of the dream catcher, such as fur, feathers, stones, beads or claws or bits of horn from the owner's totem animals.
