These opaque glass crow beads are very similar to the kind and color of beads often used as trade beads in the 1600 to 1800s. The center holes are fairly uniform in this mix. They are comparable in size to the immitation plastic beads sold at craft stores under the trade name of pony beads. Transparent means they are a semi-transparent color that lets some light through, giving them a very beautiful color. Cobalt blue was one of the most prized colors of Plains Indian tribes.
