Shoshone-Bannock History in Idaho PART I OF II: 2008's historic Idaho Democratic Convention, held in Boise, ID, June 12-14, invited Idaho Native American Tribal members from the Shoshone-Bannock/Fort Hall, Shoshone-Paiute/Duck Valley, Nez Perce, and Coeur D'Alene tribal communities to take an active part in the convention activities. On June 12th, the Idaho AFL-CIO hosted a Democratic picnic for convention goers. Mr. Ted Howard, Cultural Resource Director, Duck Valley, spoke to picnic participants about the Shoshone-Paiute-Bannock history in the Boise Valley area. 9:49 minutes.
Part II-Grand Entry, Flag Ceremony and Recessional All convention tribal members participated in the grand entry at the beginning of the June 13th Idaho Democratic Convention gathering followed by a flag ceremony and presentation by Mr. Lee Juan Tyler, Council Member, Shoshone-Bannock/Fort Hall community. Fort Hall and Duck Valley singers and drummers played songs for the grand entry, flag ceremony and recessional.

I wanted to alert you to an important opportunity for our
youth. The Gates Millennium Scholars program, established
in 1999, was initially funded by a 1 billion dollar grant
from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The goal of GMS
is to promote academic excellence and to provide an
opportunity for outstanding minority students with significant financial
need to reach their highest potential.
If you are interested, you must hurry, the deadline for applications is approaching.
Please encourage outstanding students who have significant
financial need and leadership potential for the GMS program.
The program selects one thousand students per year as Gates
Millennium Scholars. The scholarship supports the costs of
attendance, and can be renewed each year during the Scholars
undergraduate program. The award is also renewable for
graduate study for those who choose one of the seven graduate
majors: public health, mathematics, science, computer science,
engineering, education, or library science.
Students are eligible to be considered for a GMS scholarship
if they:
* Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific
Islander American or Hispanic American;
* Are a citizen, legal permanent resident or national of the United
States ;
* Have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted);
* Will be entering a U.S. accredited college or university as a
full-time, degree-seeking
* freshman in the Fall of 2008;
* Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in
community service, extracurricular or other activities; and
* Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria;
* Have completed and submitted all three required forms (Nominee
Personal Information Form, Nominator Form, and Recommender Form) by the
deadline.

The Deadlines for Submission of Nomination Materials are as
follows:
All paper applications must be postmarked by December 31, 2007.
All online applications must be submitted by January 11, 2008 11:59 p.m.
