Posted on Thursday, March 09 @ 18:25:55 PST | |
AUTHOR: Gina Mushynsky / Indian Country Today
Familiar names graced the collection of nominees and
winners in the 48th Annual GRAMMY Awards on Feb. 8
The award for Best Native American Album went to ''Sacred Ground: A Tribute
to Mother Earth,'' a collection of music from stellar artists and previous
GRAMMY winners Bill Miller, Joanne Shenandoah and Primeaux & Mike. Also
featured are the Little Wolf Band, Robert Mirabal and Star Nayea. ''Sacred Ground''
is a production of Silverwave Records/Katahdin Productions.
Runners-up were Canyon Records releases ''More Kids' Pow-Wow Songs,'' by
Black Lodge; ''Intonation: Harmonized Songs from the Southern Plains,'' by Alex
E. Smith & Cheevers Toppah; and ''Our Love Will Never Die,'' by Randy Wood.
Another Canyon Records album - ''People of Peace,'' by the R. Carlos Nakai
Quartet - earned a nomination for Best New Age Album, but was unsuccessful in
capturing top honors in that category.
Recordings released during between Oct. 1, 2004 and Sept. 30, 2005 were
eligible for award nomination.
